Babies’ tiny bodies are being fed disproportionate amounts of harmful chemicals through plastic baby bottles – DEHP,
they’ve got it all. **we’re kidding about the last two!**
These chemicals have been linked by researchers to a slew of health concerns ranging from asthma, thyroid, reproductive issues to cancer.
We read about toxins in baby bottles ALL THE TIME. EVERYWHERE and yet, we keep using plastic baby bottles and sippy cups simply because they’re convenient! Not fair to the kids. Their frail bodies are receiving a dose of these chemicals (as a percentage of their body mass) and given that main source of non breastfed babies food is through the bottle – their exposure is multiplied by that much frequency. Imagine loading your own bodies with that percentage of toxins. Sheesh!
As per the TOI news report, “The feeding bottles in India are regulated by the Infant Milk Substitutes, Feeding Bottles and Infant Foods (Regulation of Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 1992, as amended in 2003. The BIS revised the standard for feeding bottles in 2013 and prepared a draft notification banning BPA. Leave aside enforcement, even the changes have not been notified.
* Discard worn out bottles right away! If they have scratches, please parents, they really need to go. They’re leeching more chemicals into your baby’s milk than before.
* If you can, ditch plastic baby bottles altogether. even the BPA Free ones
* Embrace glass or stainless steel versions for bottles.
